Dear Members of Oadby

Hope everyone is well. There has been a slight increase in Burglary Dwellings in the areas surrounding Hunters ways and Rosemead Drive. Majority of these burglaries are when occupants are away on holiday. If you are planning a holiday? Make sure someone’s checking on your property simple neighbourly actions like putting the bins out & taking them in or collecting post that may be collecting in the porch. These are things criminals use to identify an unoccupied house to target. Consider using timer lights for the upstairs and downstairs to go on and off at different times.
Consider also using Window Alarms to protect rear windows and patio side doors which are normally the entry points for Burglars. Please do not leave keys on patio doors as there have been cases where a side PVC door upper glass was smashed and the burglar can just reach in and open the door.

From looking at various reports the times appear to be between 1-4am is when a Burglary occurs so if you do have timer lights ensure you set them to go on/off during these times as well. There are also 'Smart Light Bulbs' that you fit on your existing ceiling lamps. These can be turned on or off using your mobile phone whilst away. Do a Google Search 'Smart Lights' and Shop around. They normally retail about £8-10.

Consider using Doorbell Cameras or Flood light cameras to protect your home. Usually these cameras can alert you on motion and you could then alert your neighbour or someone who you trust to check on your property.

We have plenty of timers and a limited quantity of window alarms at Wigston Police station. So if you see your local beat team out and about then please mention this as we maybe able to get one to you otherwise feel free to visit the Wigston Front desk during opening times.

Finally we want to hear your views. Please could you take a moment to complete our survey so we are aware of any issues around our area.

Thanks for your time and Stay Safe.
