August South Town Update

Alert message sent 03/09/2021 09:30:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Good Morning and welcome to our August priority update.

On the Melton Town South beat, you have two new representatives: PC 4037 Matt Houghton and PCSO 6502 Ciaron Fuller. PC Houghton came to Melton after 6 and a half years of policing in the city, being based at Beaumont Leys for nearly 4 years before coming to Melton. PCSO Fuller is new to the Police, after completing his initial training phase, he has now joined the Town South beat. Both officers are very much looking forward to the new challenges that lay ahead and are eager to engage with the community and people within it.

Our 3 current beat priorities are:
Road Safety Concerns: Including speeding, ASB and parking in and around schools at drop off and pick up times
Anti-Social Behaviour
Drug Dealing/Taking

These beat priorities are dictated by YOU. We need to know what is going on within your community so we can help and look at ways of combatting these issues. These priorities are the 3 main areas bought to our attention, however that does not mean that we do not look at wider issues.

If you have any other suggestions or concerns regarding any of our local priorities feel free to get in touch with us by reporting your issue on 101 or online, speaking to officers whilst walking around the beat or through our direct messages on our Facebook page.

Anti-Social Behaviour continues to be one of our main focal points around the Melton Town South. Anti-Social Behaviour effects lives. It is behaviour by a person which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to persons not at the same household as the person. Types of anti-social behaviour could be shouting, swearing, loud music, driving inconsiderably, animal nuisance, vandalism and many more. If you are subject to ASB please report this, details on how to do this are below.

Your beat team are conducting regular foot and marked car patrols around our hotspot locations that have been highlighted by previous incidents, face to face interactions and brought up on Neighbourhood Link.

The ASB reports which have been received over the past month have been varied, with reports of littering, damage and nuisance behaviour among others. Officers have looked to resolve these issues quickly and efficiently and will continue to problem solve these issues, with partner agencies.

We have received a few reports of noise from neighbours and late night parties, unfortunately we are unable to investigate these reports but please report to your local council. http://www.melton.gov.uk/

We fully appreciate the negative impact that ASB happens and how it can affect people mentally and physically, so please do not hesitate to report ASB to Police online via https://www.leics.police.uk/ , or by calling the Police on 101, (always 999 in an emergency) or contacting https://crimestoppers-uk.org/

Drug Dealing and Drug Taking remains a pertinent issue that we focus our attention on, therefore continues to be another one of our local priorities. Marked vehicle and foot patrols have been conducted along our designated hotspots as a form of deterrent.

This combatted with proactive work across the beat including officers using their stop and search powers to reduce the amount of potential drug dealing within the beat area. 4 searches of persons and vehicles have been conducted this month, with some positive outcomes including the recovery and destruction of drugs.

We are always grateful for your help and involvement on bringing offenders to justice, therefore we are urging anyone to report any information known about the supply of drugs to us by calling 101, or via our Facebook or Twitter accounts. You can also report information to us completely anonymously via Crime Stoppers online, or over the phone, their website is www.crimestoppers-uk.org/ and their phone number is 0800 555 111.

Road Safety is another pressing issue and local priority on the Melton Town South Beat. Speed calming measures in the form of parking up in a Police car have also been conducted along Dalby Road and Leicester Road coming into Melton. Officers found this a very effective way in managing the speed of vehicles coming into the town and also act as a deterrent for further speeding into and out of Melton.

Recent training undertaken by PCSO Fuller will allow us to further the work taken in reducing the speeding in and around your area. With PCSO Fuller now trained in using the speed gun, speeding operations will be conducted and drivers found to be exceeding the speed limits will be dealt with accordingly.

Melton Town South Beat Meetings

Our Neighbourhood Police meetings are open to everyone and give you the chance to meet your local Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers. It’s a chance for you to speak to your local policing team every month, have a say on how your area is policed and monitor our performance. You can tell us what issues concern you, ask them questions about how we are policing your area and each month we will decide which policing priorities we will be concentrating on in your area for the next month, based upon your concerns and questions.

Officers will be attending the MMRFC ‘Try Rugby’ open day this Saturday (4th September 2021)
Further work is being conducted in terms of creating further engagements with dates yet to be confirmed, however officers will be in B&Q and Eye Kettleby Lakes in the coming weeks, please look out for dates posted for these events on Facebook/Twitter and Neighbourhood Link.

We look forward to meeting you at one of the above venues.
