Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Good evening everybody,

Recently in the East Leicester area, there have been a number of thefts from vehicles, with the target being catalytic converters. These thefts cause hundreds of pounds worth of damage and enormous inconvenience to the owner of the vehicle.

The thefts on the Thurncourt ward have occurred between 7pm-7am however, elsewhere in Leicester, thefts have also occurred during the day. I would ask that you stay vigilant and report anything that you believe is suspicious, no matter how minor you think it might be. For example, people who appear to be working on a vehicle in the dark, could be seen as suspicious.

You may or may not have noticed that, as a result of these thefts, your local officers have increased patrols on the Thurncourt ward, particularly in the hours of darkness.

Over the previous 2 nights, these extra patrols have resulted in:

- 1 vehicle seized for being driven without a licence or insurance. The driver was reported for these offences;

- Another driver reported for driving with no insurance;

- Intelligence gathered on vehicles that have failed to stop for police;

- Vehicle stopped and searched for drugs, using information from the public. Cannabis was found and 2 males dealt with for possession of Class B drugs.

While no arrests have yet been made for the thefts of catalytic converters, no further thefts have been reported in the past 2 days, so hopefully we have at least been deterring them.

Furthermore, last week, again with help from the public, a cannabis factory was discovered and tens of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis was seized. A great result and significant disruption caused to an organised crime group.

Most of what we do is led by information provided by the public, so please continue to let us know what is going on where you live. You can send us a message on Neighbourhood Link, you can contact the police using www.leics.police.uk or you can call us on 101.

Thank you,
