Most Burglaries Occur at the Rear of your Property

Alert message sent 16/11/2020 18:16:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members

There has been a couple of Burglaries recently on our area which I would like to inform our members.
Bungalow on Seagate Drive where suspects have entered via the rear bedroom window. Suspects have taken a quantity of cash and Jewellery at the address. This occurred on Saturday 14/11/20 between 16:45 – 19:50. If you do live in this area and have CCTV then please could I ask that you check during these times and contact us of any suspicious activity.

There has also been a Burglary on Queen Street which is off Uplands Road in Oadby. This occurred between 19:00 on Monday 09/11/20 to the next day of 10/11/20 till 11:40 when occupants found out their vehicle was missing. Suspects entered the property via a rear insecure door and took keys to an Audi vehicle. There was also another burglary a week before on Queen Street where a Nissan vehicle was stolen but was soon recovered.

Please could I urge members to ensure that the front and rear of their property is secure. The rear of the property is always the most vulnerable. Again you need to utilise window alarms, segment timers and ensure that when you do close your windows that the handle is down and you hear the click. I have seen some people just closing the window leaving the handle in the up position and from a distance any burglar will know an insecure window. Also Wheelie Bins are a helping hand for burglars when it comes to either storing items or using them to jump over fences. Ensure they are secured away at the back of your property and not in the front.

We are actively patrolling the local area being plain clothes and uniformed officers. Please could I encourage members to be extra vigilant during these tough times we are in and call us of any suspicious activity in your area.

Finally we are still getting reports of residents breaking the National Covid Restrictions. Please could I urge everyone to familiarise yourself with these rules as per the link below. You cannot have visitors!

Stay Safe and remember the three simple actions we must all do to keep on protecting each other

Wash hands- keep washing your hands regularly or use sanitiser gel
Cover face - wear a face covering in enclosed spaces (unless you have an exemption from wearing one)
Make space - stay at least 2 metres apart
