Burbage Weekly Update

Alert message sent 17/10/2020 22:41:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Hello, Hope you are keeping well. Here is your Burbage update.

*There have been three reports of vehicles being scratched in the EAST CLOSE and PASSCHENDAELE DRIVE areas. They may have happened sometime between 1200-1500 on the 17th October. If you have any information regarding the perpetrator of these acts, please get in touch.

*Theft of a Bamboo plant and pot from a garden in Woodstock Close on the 15/10/2020 around 05:30. If you have any CCTV that may identify the vehicle registration plate of the vehicle involved, please get in touch so we can follow up.

*Several attempt burglaries possibly vehicle related as discussed on our previous message. At the time of writing this appears to be a spate of crime over a 24 hour period. We are continuing to investigate these incidents but please continue to be vigilant. Always report suspicious behaviour to 101 non-emergency or 999 emergency .

*I have been made aware of scams that local residents have received recently. These include VIRGIN MEDIA phone calls looking to improve your WI-FI speed. Do not engage and put the phone down. If you have any issues with your Internet, then you contact your supplier. It is very unlikely they will contact you.
A resident received a phone call to their land line from HMRC stating the resident owed tax. The threat of arrest was made if they did not call a number immediately. This is a scam, put the phone down.

I am not aware of any recent victims to these types of scams locally but please spread the word if you have any elderly, vulnerable or non- Internet users by you. Keeping people informed of new/local scams can help reduce the amount of victims of this type of crime.

You said, we did

Speeding in the Village.

Since our last speeding event, we received complaints from two locations. We attended Sketchley Road just up from the school in the 30mph limit. We attended at school closing time.  One person was caught speeding. They will be informed shortly.
We then attended Rugby road towards the Three Pots Island in the 40Mph area. Four drivers were caught speeding heading towards the M69 (before the Canberra way island). These drivers will be notified shortly. Hopefully our presence will raise awareness and make motorists think twice about speeding, especially around areas such as schools. If you would like to get involved please have a look at https://www.communityspeedwatch.org/ .

*We have visited several addresses regarding a report of anti-social behaviour. We have spoken to the parents who have mainly been very supportive of our actions. Our visits ensure that parents are aware of the incidents and hopefully help guide the children away from the type of behaviour that can impact anyone in their community.

*We have continued to complete work with local residents to raise awareness around local crime. This includes leaflet drops, door knocks and crime prevention items, advice and support. Crimes such as shed breaks, Burglary, bicycle thefts and theft from vehicles can often be opportunistic crimes. In many cases, there are little things that can be done to reduce the chance of being targeted. Please have a look at the below links for more information.

We have continued to raise awareness around theft from vans. We have received no more reports of theft from vans in the village. Please continue to be vigilant and try and remove tools overnight.
