Neighbourhood Link update

Alert message sent 14/12/2019 09:58:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Hi,

Welcome to the latest update on Neighbourhood Link.

Have you seen any suspicious activity recently around vehicles in the area?

The local area is currently reporting thefts of Catalytic Converters from vehicles. It seems we are not the only ones as so is other parts of the city and county. The catalytic converter is situated on the underside of the vehicle on the exhaust pipe that runs front to back. When taken it can be sold on for the price of the metals inside.

Have you seen any persons jacking up a car recently and working under it on the street?

When the vehicle is jacked up the catalytic converter can be cut from the pipe and taken?

This could be happening at all times of the day and even overnight.

If you spot any suspicious activity with a vehicle that is happening there and then ring 999. If you discover a theft after it has happened you can ring 101 or report online on www.leics.police.uk. Please can you give as much description as possible of persons and vehicles if any are in progress or have been spotted.

On another note, during these cold and frosty mornings, please do not leave your vehicles unattended with the engines running whilst it defrosts.  It is so easy for someone to come along, jump in the vehicle and drive off and this is something which has been happening in the wider Spinney Hills area, so please be warned.

Finally, to all those cyclists or to anyone who may be getting a new bike for Christmas.  It has been noted by the local team that some people are not using lights on their bikes which is madness on these dark winter days.  Lights can be purchased for only a couple of pounds and could save your life!  On a similar point, please do not leave your bikes unlocked even if it is just for a short time.  There have been cases reported where someone has nipped into a shop for a couple of minutes and their bike has been gone when they come out.  Don’t let that happen to you!

The Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police; Simon Cole, the Police and Crime Commissioner; Lord Willy Bach and the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner; Kirk Masters will be at St Matthews Community Centre on Friday 20 December from 1300-1400 with their “What Matters To You” stand.  Please feel free to pop down to see them, you will be assured a warm welcome.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year from the Spinney Hills Police Team.
