HMRC Warning from Trading Standards

Alert message sent 22/05/2019 17:26:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members

Trading Standards is warning about emails claiming to be from HMRC, telling people they are due a tax refund. The email will contain a link to what appears to be the gov.uk website, however the website linked is fake and is a copycat website designed to look like the real thing. HMRC never send notifications of a rebate or ask for information by email or text.

If you are unsure if your email came from a genuine source, tap on the sender’s name to see the full email address it was sent from. Sometimes it maybe hard to see the difference as they would put a fullstop within the email body and maybe difficult for some to spot this and by glance it may look like an original email address.

Report suspicious HMRC emails to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk If HMRC needs to contact you about anything confidential, they’ll reply by phone or post. For further details follow https://tinyurl.com/y48mqy39
